A New Leaf
Sorry about being MIA for the last few months guys. I have been working on a project with the Maryland-based Luxury Brand Prince Zamira (PZ) for their men's suit collection and luxury accessories. It's been quite an eye opener. Oh yes, I also celebrated another year added to my already unusual life several days ago. These two things even though mutually exclusive came together to birth this blog post about turning over a new leaf in life. I have been working with the talented Alhaji of A.S.K Photography on the PZ project, and I would like to thank him for his excellent shots and interesting conversations.
Now, why would a clothing line and my birthday prompt me to come up with this post? I am glad you asked. Despite what some might think, I am not fond of taking pictures and not a model. I have been thinking about changing careers and doing something that will help me grow my business and #doitforthegandas (by the way, that hashtag is mine). After parting ways with my 9 to 5 job, I decided that I was going to focus on things that I wanted to do. Now you would think this is something that should just happen effortlessly, considering that I consult with small businesses and teach others how to follow their dreams. Well, you'd be wrong. I had no idea how or where to start.
This was when PZ reached out to me. I have always supported what the company stands for because they are all about the human condition. The company's slogan is "The Best Of You", and at this point, this was what I was looking for. I wanted the find the best version of myself. In my quest to do so, I read several self-help books and reached out to motivational speaking friends trying to get the fire burning again. That got me nowhere. Anyway, back to the meeting, I have always said that I would not use my platform to support or promote any product or company that goes against the things I believe in. As a result, I never really tried soliciting companies.
However, my meeting with the PZ team was different. The passion of the owner was infectious. As a young black entrepreneur, he has managed to build this brand single-handedly. He travels around the world finding quality fabrics and raw materials used in tailoring the custom suits and accessories. It turns out that being around like-minded people was all I needed to get back on track. So I decided the first thing I needed to do was to let go of my past. For years, I have been struggling with correcting mistakes in my past. As a result, I was stuck in my personal rut with the belief that I could do nothing to change things.
I have been collaborating with PZ for several months now, and I have witnessed the brand grow. This country we live in is one full of opportunities and here is a company showing its clients that they did not just want to sell them a suit; but they try to help them be the best version of themselves. Let me make it clear that I will only endorse or talk about things and organisations that I believe in. A few years ago, I lost my smile. Now I can tell you that I am no longer worried about what happened in my past because that is all behind me. I am excited to see what this new year has in store for me. So far, 2017 has brought me nothing but blessings.
